Senior Services

California's fastest growing population is people aged 65 and older. However, construction of affordable housing units for seniors hasn't kept pace. For this reason, The Salvation Army operates a number of senior housing facilities in Southern California, as well as licensed adult day care services for seniors and those suffering from disabilities. Our Centers provide alternatives to seniors looking for independent living situations and caregivers who may require additional support.

In addition, many of our Corps Community Centers offer services for seniors. Services vary by the needs of the community and our resources.

Our Programs

Silvercrest Senior Residences serve to fill a critical need for housing for low-income seniors. Residents pay only thirty percent of their income for housing, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) pays the difference. These apartment-style communities range in size from 22 to 257 units. The units are equipped with a private kitchen and comfortable living quarters, which encourage independent living. Often located adjacent to or near a Salvation Army Community Center, residences offer community-oriented programs for its tenants to give them the opportunity to socialize within their community. Silvercrest facilities are located in the following communities: Glendale, Hollywood, Lake View Terrace, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Fe Springs, Ventura, San Diego, El Cajon, Chula Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, and Riverside.

Santa Monica Silvercrest Senior Residence is a residential apartment complex offering 124 apartments to independent seniors ages 55 and older. Silvercrest provides an environment where residents may enjoy the many benefits of community living

The Mindeman Senior Residence Center in Redondo Beach provides 49 one-and two-bedroom apartment units for seniors, which help the elderly manage escalating housing costs in the South Bay Beach Cities. Residents are encouraged to participate in regular group activities and have scheduled monthly visits from healthcare professionals.

Senior Nutrition provides seniors with free and low-cost nutritious meals throughout San Diego County. It promotes the spiritual, physical, emotional and social well-being of seniors by providing optional programming designed for seniors, and all dining centers are designated Cool Zones.
