Helping seniors connect
“They do all they can to help others find hope.” – Terry
Terry is 74 and comes to the Long Beach Red Shield facility four or five times a week. After her husband of 54 years passed away, life became lonelier. That’s when a friend invited her to the Long Beach Red Shield Center. Terry says, “I was amazed at all the opportunities and programs available.”
First, she joined the walking group. She enjoyed herself so much that she began to participate in other senior activities. She says, “On Thursdays, I love coming for craft day.” She also likes movie days, bingo, and the helpful classes that are offered. She’s been able to learn more about healthy diets for seniors, stress management, and dementia. “I have a place to go to every day to learn, create, experience, share and be with other seniors,” she says.
Embracing golden years with joy
Terry is grateful to meet new people and be active. The Red Shield Center is a place for her to find new friendships and be surrounded by people who care. She says, “It’s like having a family away from home, who care about me. The Salvation Army is dedicated to helping seniors and all people become better every day — physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.”
Thanks to your support, more neighbors like Terry are living healthier, happier, and more fulfilled lives because of The Salvation Army. Terry also shares, “I am thankful to be a witness to others of the goodness of The Salvation Army and the opportunities that are offered for all people.”
